Our Commitment to Diversity

(note: this is our diversity statement from 2016 - we are working to update and expand our commitments to diversity and inclusion among our community and appreciate any and all feedback you have to offer)

Dear SAGANet Community Members,

Over the past few years, SAGANet.org has received financial contributions from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, a US federal agency, to support our education programs. With the recent US Presidential election, NASA’s future leadership and direction is uncertain, as well as the new administration’s policy decisions regarding education and community outreach.

Let it be said with no ambiguity: we want to emphasize SAGANet’s vision and commitment to diversity.

Our mission is:

"To uplift the scientific endeavor by empowering meaningful and authentic public engagement in scientific exploration and to foster a positive culture of public engagement among all scientists."

SAGANet remains committed to upholding and distributing scientific knowledge and to promoting respectful viewpoints and conversations and we look forward to continued collaboration with NASA to accomplish these goals.

SAGANet further commits itself to encouraging the diversity of individuals engaged in science and facilitate the success of anyone interested in pursuing their interest in science. Diversity includes, but is not limited to age, race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or veteran status. A diverse community is a more productive and connected community.

Science is not a political conversation. It’s one rooted in committed research, to understand our world and our place within it, and to share these discoveries with our fellow humans.
